GIS at ME&A
ME&A currently incorporates Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
into its projects on an ever increasing scale. Beginning with the now complete Safe Drinking Water Program in Tajikistan and today with USAID's Clean Energy and Water Program in Armenia, GIS has been and continues to be an important component of each program's mission.

In Armenia, for example, ME&A utilizes GIS consistently in the implementation of a number of its current projects to develop capacity for integrated energy and water resources management in the country.
In the development of river basin management plans for the Vorotan

GIS is also being utilized by CEWP experts in the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) for water resource managers and decision makers in Armenia. The DSS will be integrated with GIS software to provide spatial representations of precipitation, evaporation, natural flow, and deep flow patterns over long periods of observation. It will include tools for the analysis of climate change trends and projections. Currently, CEWP experts are in the process of generating land cover/land use GIS layers for the southern river basin management area of Armenia using RapidEye satellite imagery. These layers will be incorporated into the DSS and also serve as a stand-alone resource so that water planners in the region will be able to make more environmentally informed decisions.
